TE FAFARUA: our new boat!

In 2024, FAFARUA Private Island celebrates its tenth anniversary. This is the occasion for a number of improvements, including a new boat that is much appreciated by our visitors. Her name: "TE FAFARUA", the Manta Ray.

The ship was custom-built by a Polynesian shipyard to very precise and ambitious specifications.

The key words were passenger comfort, robustness and adaptation to sailing conditions in the lagoon.

A spacious, comfortable boat

It's a 30-foot (10-meter) aluminum catamaran powered by 2 engines, each rated at 175 HP.
Its size means it can easily carry 12 passengers (and 3 crew members) in much-appreciated comfort.
The very wide deck features a saloon with four spacious bench seats with soft, comfortable backrests covered in shimmering fabric. Small tables and glass rests are also provided.

Comfort also comes from the highly tapered shape of the two hulls, allowing the boat to cut through the waves without hitting them, thus avoiding the discomfort of bumping into the crests.

Designed for immersive adventures at Tikehau

The deck is completely open to the outside, allowing 360° vision when moving around the lagoon, but it can also be partially or totally enclosed by removable transparent tarpaulins in case of bad weather.

The two outboard motors, developing a total of 350 hp, enable her to cruise comfortably at between 18 and 20 knots in the lagoon's usual sea conditions, in a very appreciable silence.

Its very shallow draught enables it to approach most beaches and even to "beach", allowing passengers to disembark directly onto the sand via a retractable bathing ladder between the two bows.

Make the most of your excursions

This staircase can also be used to launch passengers in deeper water, such as during snorkeling excursions.

You can also climb down a special ladder for scuba diving.

The many seats around the deck provide ample storage space for items that are sensitive to humidity.

Two removable shelves can accommodate trays for serving drinks, and several secure glass rests are integrated into the lounge unit.

With all-new equipment

A fixed tubular awning, made of thick unbleached canvas, protects the entire deck from sun and rain. If necessary, transparent canvas can be lowered all around the saloon to protect passengers.

A self-contained showerhead allows you to rinse quickly with fresh water after a swim.

Everything is done on board to ensure that transfers between the motu and the village, as well as the various daily excursions, are carried out in optimum comfort.

Tikehau excursions with Fafarua Private Island

So, in addition to the usual excursions we organize within the lagoon, the crossing to take divers to the pass, directly to the scuba diving sites, to meet the local service providers, after agreement with them, becomes much easier, quicker and more comfortable, making FAFARUA Private Island a diving destination in its own right.

The same goes for surfing enthusiasts, who will be able to ride the famous waves of the Tuheiava pass in very comfortable conditions.

What's more, everything on this boat is ready to organize "champagne sunset" excursions to liven up the end of the day.

But don't worry if you're a regular visitor to the private island: you'll always find the two other boats you already know at your disposal:
The "VANILLE FRAISE 2": a 23-foot hull equipped with a 150 hp engine that can accommodate 8 people with a fairly flat bottom that we still use for certain excursions and fishing trips.
The "TE IOIO": a 12-foot aluminum hull powered by a 40 hp engine and able to accommodate 3 passengers, which makes it possible to sail very close to the coast, very useful for fishermen, especially fly fishermen.

All in all, "TE FAFARUA" awaits you, allowing you to enjoy even more comfortably than before the personalized services that FAFARUA Private Island can offer you.

Spending a family vacation in a secluded location in an exceptional area like Tikehau’s atoll can be a very attractive vacation project.
Fafarua Private Island is certainly the place.
On the private island, everything has been done to provide the necessary comfort for a pleasant stay in an environment that remains rather hostile to non-native people.

There are, however, certain realities to consider.

The concept of a secluded private island responds to the notion of enjoying an exceptional environment with peace, tranquility and respect for the place and its inhabitants.
We ask our guests to share these values. We appreciate good humor, music and general conviviality. However, we do not tolerate yelling, screaming, fighting or aggressive behavior, regardless of the age of the guests.

Parents are responsible for supervising their children, whether in the buildings, on the grounds, during unsupervised swimming, or on excursions.
In addition, the natural environment can present a number of hazards:
– Risk of injury from coral, which is ubiquitous on an atoll,
– Presence of numerous coconut trees with coconuts that may fall
– Unsupervised swimming

The remoteness of the island should be taken into account, as we are 30 minutes by boat (in calm seas) from the village clinic (there is no doctor on the island) and one hour by plane from the nearest hospital (in Tahiti).

The use of equipment such as paddleboards, kayaks, fins, masks and snorkels must be under the supervision and responsibility of parents.

The installations, furnishings and decorations of the lodge are the result of more than twenty years of work and are often difficult to repair or replace. Therefore, we ask that everyone be respectful and make appropriate use of the facilities, equipment and environment. The house as a whole, should not be considered a playground.

Rooms must be used according to their normal occupancy. For example, a room with a bathroom for 2 to 3 people cannot be used for 4 to 6 people. The 60 000 square meter motu and its beaches are available for physical exercise.

The remoteness of the atoll and the private island makes sourcing very complicated, forcing the chef to constantly adapt to what's available.
We give great preference to fresh local produce and our cuisine is based on fish in all its forms, caught locally and whenever we can.
It is very difficult to plan "special children's" meals and cater to everyone's specific tastes. We therefore recommend that you contact us prior to booking to find out how we can accommodate your needs.

Similarly, the isolated location of the private island and the need to be self-sufficient in water and electricity means that we have to consider the wise use of these two resources without wasting them.

For all these reasons, although we are happy to welcome children, we feel that Fafarua Private Island is not a "particularly suitable" structure for children, especially young ones.
That's why, after ten years of experience, we have decided not to accept children under the age of 12.
We would be happy to welcome children over the age of 12, and we ask families bringing children to understand that this will only be possible if they make an effort to adapt to what we offer and to the rules of conviviality on the motu.
