Visit scuba diving in Tikehau is acquiring an international reputation, attracting more and more divers, and FAFARUA Private Island has positioned itself over the years as an exceptional diving destination, striving to combine access to the atoll's magnificent diving spots with the comfort and privacy offered by the private island.

The atoll's dive operators are located in the village and have to make a 40-minute boat trip to reach the pass where the dives take place. As a result, they usually offer two dives in one trip to minimize transfer times.

FAFARUA Private Island has developed a partnership with TIKEHAU's various service providers, enabling us to take our guests directly to the dive sites.

Once we've made a reservation and given you all the information you need about your equipment, we arrange to meet you directly at the pass. This way, the time taken to reach the dive sites is comparable to that of the trip from the village. What's more, the transfer is made with our boat, which is designed to carry passengers, more comfortably than dive boats, which are designed to transport equipment and divers. Last but not least, there's no need to wait at dive centers.

All transfers are carried out in the privacy of FAFARUA visitors, as the transfer boat is reserved exclusively for them. Appointments are made according to the timing of our guests' dives, to avoid wasting time managing groups. It's even possible for those who only want to try scuba diving to arrive on site just for the first dive and leave just afterwards, without having to wait for the experienced divers to complete their dives.

Peaceful diving with Fafarua

  • Once the dives have been completed, we pick up our divers on our private boat, where they can shower in fresh water, dry off and change before being served hot tea or a drink with a few cookies. It's time to head straight back to the private motu where lunch awaits. They can then enjoy the rest of the day in the comfort and privacy of the private island.
  • This transportation service costs our guests nothing, since one boat trip per day is included in our package. There is no extra charge for the service provider, and divers pay directly without any commission.
  • FAFARUA Private Island, in its role as concierge, can take care of dive bookings and the organization of appointments or any specific request to make things as easy as possible for you.
  • And as the icing on the cake, for all bookings of at least 4 nights, FAFARUA Private Island offers you a free dive (a first dive or a single dive) with one of our diving partners. (see list of diving partners)

Scuba diving spots in Tikehau

TUHEIAVA pass

allows you to drift between depths of 6m and 15m, in the midst of an impressive array of fish, whatever your diving level. You'll easily encounter impressive schools of surgeonfish, jackfish or trevally, majestic napoleons, moray eels hidden in the coral, white tip sharks, dogtooth tuna and sometimes turtles, manta rays or even tiger sharks. These drift dives are truly exceptional.

The POITO site (the buoy)

The reef slope is home to majestic napoleons, echeloned trevally and impressive schools of trevally and surgeonfish. For lovers of deeper diving, the drop-off offers breathtaking panoramas. Descending into the blue depths, divers can encounter hammerhead sharks, barracudas and sometimes even tuna.

or trou a raira, a magnificent drop-off of over 60 m with stunning visibility, a grey shark nursery, a vertical cave with an impressive number of sharks, accessible only to experienced divers.

The old pearl farm

inside the lagoon, considered to be a cleaning station for manta rays, is accessible to all levels and allows you to observe them at close quarters, whether snorkeling or diving.

Spending a family vacation in a secluded location in an exceptional area like Tikehau’s atoll can be a very attractive vacation project.
Fafarua Private Island is certainly the place.
On the private island, everything has been done to provide the necessary comfort for a pleasant stay in an environment that remains rather hostile to non-native people.

There are, however, certain realities to consider.

The concept of a secluded private island responds to the notion of enjoying an exceptional environment with peace, tranquility and respect for the place and its inhabitants.
We ask our guests to share these values. We appreciate good humor, music and general conviviality. However, we do not tolerate yelling, screaming, fighting or aggressive behavior, regardless of the age of the guests.

Parents are responsible for supervising their children, whether in the buildings, on the grounds, during unsupervised swimming, or on excursions.
In addition, the natural environment can present a number of hazards:
– Risk of injury from coral, which is ubiquitous on an atoll,
– Presence of numerous coconut trees with coconuts that may fall
– Unsupervised swimming

The remoteness of the island should be taken into account, as we are 30 minutes by boat (in calm seas) from the village clinic (there is no doctor on the island) and one hour by plane from the nearest hospital (in Tahiti).

The use of equipment such as paddleboards, kayaks, fins, masks and snorkels must be under the supervision and responsibility of parents.

The installations, furnishings and decorations of the lodge are the result of more than twenty years of work and are often difficult to repair or replace. Therefore, we ask that everyone be respectful and make appropriate use of the facilities, equipment and environment. The house as a whole, should not be considered a playground.

Rooms must be used according to their normal occupancy. For example, a room with a bathroom for 2 to 3 people cannot be used for 4 to 6 people. The 60 000 square meter motu and its beaches are available for physical exercise.

The remoteness of the atoll and the private island makes sourcing very complicated, forcing the chef to constantly adapt to what's available.
We give great preference to fresh local produce and our cuisine is based on fish in all its forms, caught locally and whenever we can.
It is very difficult to plan "special children's" meals and cater to everyone's specific tastes. We therefore recommend that you contact us prior to booking to find out how we can accommodate your needs.

Similarly, the isolated location of the private island and the need to be self-sufficient in water and electricity means that we have to consider the wise use of these two resources without wasting them.

For all these reasons, although we are happy to welcome children, we feel that Fafarua Private Island is not a "particularly suitable" structure for children, especially young ones.
That's why, after ten years of experience, we have decided not to accept children under the age of 12.
We would be happy to welcome children over the age of 12, and we ask families bringing children to understand that this will only be possible if they make an effort to adapt to what we offer and to the rules of conviviality on the motu.
